Carousel Chains

Altec Design a 7,000 Tonne Carousel Drive Chain

We Have been designing and building Carousel chains for over 20 years.  Our experience made us the first choice for one of the world leaders in basket carousel manufacturers.

We are cabable of designing chain with breaking loads in excess of 1.25MN with large roller widths to allow for the vertical and and radial misalignment experienced wih large fabricated carousel structures.  Our expertise and use of FEA analysis allows us to ensure the chain is able to carry the loads throughout its expected 20 year working life, with the lowest factor of safety to ensure that the chain weight is kept to a minimum.

Because we design and maufacure a significant number of carousel chains each year, we now class ourselves as the UK's leading carousel chain manufacturer.

Design and Development

We pride ourselves on our attention to detail we take during the design stage of the project to ensure that the customers needs are fully met.

We specifically design the chain to suit the caousel, this means that we are able to provided the ideal chain pitch to ensure the best load characteristics and mating with the basket segments, ribs and drive position.

We also specifically design the chain sprockets to allow them to run at various degrees of radial and vertical misalignment and still maintain the rack tooth mesh that is required in order to transfer the loads betwee the rollers and sprocket teeth.

We produce a motion study to ensure that the sprocket is fully in mesh in all positions of mis alignment.

All chain materails are specifically selected for the application and in order that they operate correctly we carry out full load calculation to ensure the achieve the desired tensile, deflection and contact stress characteristics.  In addition we also heat treat the components to ensure the maximum wear life possible.

All chains undergo a various coating process to increase corrosion resistence and provide lubrication during the bedding in of the chain.
